Orion's Story

This is Orion at 8 weeks old.  Like most puppies, he was inquisitive and loved to chew and have stuff in his mouth.  A little before his first birthday (November 2015) he got a little too carried away and ate a tube sock along with a few other things and had to have obstruction surgery.  After 5.5 hours of surgery he was moved to an urgent 24 hour care center for observation and continued care.  After six weeks of healing he became ill again on Christmas day.  He ended up back at the emergency vets for a second surgery due to adhesions from the first surgery.  After a quick in and out surgery he was brought home to recover again.  A week after having the stitches out from surgery #2, he was found to have a fever of 105, an infection had set in on the intestinal incision.  He headed back into surgery and this time he had about 8 inches of his intestine removed along with a lot of the scar tissue from previous surgeries and what infection they could get.  He was in very serious condition and fighting for his life.  All three of these surgeries occurred in a 2 month period.

Orion was in the intensive care unit at the Veterinary Specialty Hospital of the Carolina's for almost a week following his third surgery.  Many friends were asking if they could donate to help with his mounting vet bills.  Those of us close to him were very touched and found that the easiest way for people to help was to donate through a YouCaring fundraiser.  Almost $10,000 was raised and it touched Beth Bernstein's heart so deeply that she decided she wanted to pay forward the generosity of others in her time of need and with that thought, Orion's Stars was born.  We are working on our non profit status with the intent of helping others who may find themselves a bit short of funds for veterinary care.  All donations are greatly appreciated!  Thank you!
